Novel Summary
In the aftermath of a notorious police shooting that cleaves the city of Ashwick in two, defense attorney Kate O'Sullivan secures an acquittal for the officer involved. As protests erupt, a serial killer begins staging murders that meticulously replicate the most brutal scenes from classic literature—from Dostoevsky's axe to Highsmith's strangling. Kate finds herself in the killer's crosshairs, forced to confront the unbearable truth that in the fight to survive, every moral principle she once held sacred becomes a grotesque liability.
